Port of Hamburg closed for large vessels
The Port of Hamburg has been closed to large ships because of the warning strike announced by the Verdi trade union. Since Wednesday morning, ships requiring pilotage have been unable to enter or leave Germany's largest port. The strike call is valid from 5:30 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Friday.
Due to the warning strike, we anticipate considerable problems with the receipt and delivery of containers. Furthermore, we cannot guarantee that your containers can be placed as scheduled. Please note that the warning strike may result in additional costs, which will be charged to the goods.
Please coordinate with us at short notice in order to adjust the presentation and shipment dates if necessary.

Impact of earthquake in Turkey and Syria
Dear Customers Partners and Friends,
In light of the earthquake that sadly hit Turkey and Syria (and also neighboring countries) on the morning of Monday 6 February 2023, we as M.G. International would like to inform you of the subsequent impact on operations and services.
Such was the magnitude of the earthquake that there has been significant damage to logistics and transport infrastructure around the Pazarcik, Kahramanmaras, epicentre, including at the Port of Iskenderun.
The port has unfortunately been subject to severe structural damage, leading to a complete stop of all operations until further notice.
Roads from the region of Mersin/Adana towards Iraq have also been heavily affected. This may cause serious impact on the highly frequented trucking route from Turkey to Northern Iraqi Territory.
As of today it is not yet clear when the operations will be coming back to normal.
M.G. International would also like to extend its deepest sympathies to those affected by the disaster.
Our thoughts are with our friends and partners during this very difficult time.

Chinese New Year 2023 (Year of the Rabbit)
Dear Customers and Business Partners,
according to the 2023 Chinese lunar calendar, the 2023 Chinese New Year falls on Sunday, January 22, 2023, and the celebrations will last until the Lantern Festival, which will be held on February 5, 2023.
The holiday begins on the eve of the Spring Festival, which is, in 2023 from January 21 to 27. In some cases, vacation time can allow employees to take longer leave.
The Chinese New Year is a time for family reunions, with many people traveling across China back to their hometowns to visit their parents and relatives.
China has adjusted its COVID prevention and control policies. The focus has shifted from infection prevention to preventing severe cases. As of January 8, the country downgraded management of COVID-19 from Class A to Class B.
With this change in rules, this year's Spring Festival travel rush, which began on Saturday, January 7th, is expected to increase by almost 100% compared to last year.
Shipping companies have started to announce empty sailing schedules for some ships/voyages during the holiday period (week 4) and the week immediately following the holiday period (week 5).
We expect the schedule to gradually return to normal from week 6 onwards.
As for the flight market, the past has shown that during the Lunar New Year holiday there will be fewer flights and customs officials will only be on duty half a day each day.
For non-urgent cargo, we do not recommend exporting it during the week-long holiday as there are no customs officers available to carry out customs inspections.
This means that if a cargo is randomly selected for inspection, the shipment will be held at the airport until post-holiday inspection is complete.
As usual, we are always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your freight.
We wish our customers and business partners a happy and prosperous 2023, stay healthy!

Current situation at German seaports
The strike in the German seaports is having a strong impact on the tense operating situation in freight traffic. Due to high capacity utilization and staff shortages, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has currently severely restricted the entry of trains. Many rail service providers are canceling further train rotations due to massive backlogs - with consequent effects on
import containers:
Loading only with severe delay.
Containers that have not been picked up from the port 3 days after unloading may be rerouted to a non-railroad interim storage facility at a cost.
Export containers:
Acceptance at inland terminals may be refused and presentation to customer may have to be postponed.
Interim storage are at the edge of capacity and therefore only feasible in individual cases.
Note:
Presentation dates and ship closings cannot always be met.
In general, no liability is assumed for additional costs resulting from the above circumstances.

Another warning strike by port workers in German seaports
Please note that the unions have again called for a warning strike. According to initial information, the terminals in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven will be subject to a strike from 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14 to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16.
Due to the warning strike we expect considerable problems with the pick-up and drop-off of containers. Furthermore, we cannot guarantee that your containers can be placed as scheduled. Please note that the warning strike may result in additional costs, which will be charged to the goods.
Please contact us at short notice in order to adjust the presentation and shipment dates, if necessary.

Renewed warning strike by port workers in German seaports
The Ver.Di trade union has called for another warning strike by port workers in German seaports.
According to official information, this will affect the terminals in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven.
The warning strike is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning (23.06.2022) at 06:00 and then continue for 24 hours.
Due to the warning strike, extreme problems/delays are expected in the delivery/receipt of containers.
Unfortunately, scheduled delivery of containers (including temporarily stored containers) cannot be guaranteed.

Warning Strikes at German Seaports
The Labour union “ver.di” has called for warning strikes lasting several hours. The first warning strik will take place on Thursday June 9th 2022 and will take several hours. Most likely further warning strikes will follow in the next coming days/weeks but have not yet been announced. Reason for the warning strikes is the ongoing bargaining dispute between “ver.di” and the Central Association of German Seaport Operators. During the current strike no truck handling will be possible. This will cause additional delays and costs for incoming and outgoing cargo. Please note that any resulting costs will be for account of the cargo.

Shanghai goes in complete lockdown
Please note, from March 28th through April 01st Shanghai Pudong district and from April 01st through April 05th Shanghai Puxi district go to almost complete lockdown. First flights from Europe are cancelled already and more to follow. Urgent shipments, we recommend to discuss with your customer, should be re-routed to nearby entry airports or postponed.
Seafreight: The terminal operation at e.g. Shanghai port is still live, but we expect delays for any inland operation from / to the port area – a shortage of trucks / drivers is presumably and any urgent shipments need to be discussed separately. The general sequence of operations will be affected from this several-day lockdown and we recommend that you may check with our ocean or airfreight service team directly at any time.

New import procedure for shipments to the United Kingdom as of 01.2022
Last year, import shipments to Great Britain could still be cleared through import customs several months after delivery. However, this was only a temporary measure to prevent the accumulation of import shipments.
Since 01.01.2022, a different regulation now applies. Now shipments to Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland) must be declared BEFORE import. For this, the shipping documents (commercial invoice, delivery bills, packing lists) of the exporter are required.
As soon as the pre-declaration has been made, a "C88 document" is created by the British customs. This document contains all import data and the ENTRY REFERENCE NUMBER, which is then used to import the goods into the UK.
The "C88 document" must therefore be created before collection from the relevant loading point. The processing time after applying for the import pre-registration may take several days. The transport of the goods therefore only makes sense if the C88 and the ENTRY REFERENCE NUMBER are already available. This currently makes urgent shipments and/or meeting fixed deadlines extremely difficult. Therefore, for shipments to the UK, several days should be allowed for import pre-entry.
Please follow this link to the "C88 document" on the GOV.UK website.

The exceptional situation will continue for a long time

Covid Pandemic / Disruption of Supply Chain
Due to a new outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic in certain parts of China, the Chinese Authorities have announce the suspension of reefer shipments (imports) to Lianhuashan, Jiaoxin, Zhanjian till further notice.
Again, we like to inform you that because of the Covid-19 Pandemic the supply chains are seriously affected. Vessels are berthing at European and other international ports with delays due to lack of stevedores, railway and trucking services. Furthermore, the previous blocking of the Suez Channel is still effecting the shipping market and the sailing schedules of most of the shipping line.
We are trying our utmost to deliver your goods in time to the port of loading, ports of destination and/or final destinations but the current disruption of the Supply chain is unforeseeable and partly out of our control.
Therefore, please note that all additional costs, risks and liabilities related to the storage or movement of the cargo prior and after discharging will be on account of the cargo owner.
We regret this development and ask for your understanding that we cannot accept any liability for that we cannot assume any liability for delays and possibly delayed deliveries and acceptances at the seaports.
Please rest assure that we are trying out utmost to minimize delays and additional costs but as the same time we kindly ask for your understanding for the critical situation.

Flooding’s in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands
Most of you may already know that certain parts of Germany are heavy effected by the recent flooding. Areas in the western Part of Germany (North Rhine Westphalia, Rhineland Palatinate) are seriously affected. At least 140 people died so far and most likely the number will even increase in the next couple of days. Beside Germany also Belgium and the Netherlands are effected by the flooding.
In those three countries the Flooding has a serious impact on road, rail and barge connections due to damaged roads, bridges and rail tracks. Transportation by barge on the Moselle is currently stopped. Also certain part of river Rhine and Maas are effected and barge services are partly stopped.
Please note that we cannot take any liability for damages to cargo, delays in delivering goods to ports / destinations because of this unforeseen situation.

Supply chains are breaking down and "just intime" is not currently working and transportation costs are at record levels. In the USA, the development has reached the consumer and the first supply bottlenecks for components, furniture, textiles and electronics incl. chips are the result. „Advance Cargo Information System“ of imports into Egypt
An electronic system for advance information about goods before they are shipped from the port of export to Egyptian ports.
Egyptian Customs is introducing a new system for pre-registration of cargo information under the name "Advanced Cargo Information" (ACI).
The objective of the ACI system is to simplify and accelerate the customs risk assessment and release of import shipments in Egypt. The economic operators (exporter/importer) are to be provided with a uniform platform for the verification and bundling of data via a portal to be used by both sides ("Nafeza" in English: "Window").
The pilot phase, which will begin on 01.04., will provide initial findings by the time of the official mandatory phase on 01.07.2021.
Exact procedures for the registration, as well as the respective obligations of all parties involved, are currently still being discussed.
Further information can be found on the official homepage: https://www.nafeza.gov.eg/en/site/aci-details

Current - January / February 2021
The Corona crisis and the development of the markets has also affected the sea freight industry. Scarce capacities, increased rates throw calculations over the top. As early as the fourth quarter of 2020, Asia had already re-energized from the Corona recovered and production was in full swing. This development causes a severe shortage of empty containers and capacities. Chinese New Year in February also adds to the situation.
In addition, many ships are converted to emission-lowering ship engine catalysts and were temporarily taken out of service.
Containers pile up at U.S. West Coast ports.
Especially on the west coast such as Los Angeles/Long Beach there is a real chaos. There are currently several dozen Ships are stranded and waiting for confirmation to enter the port, and it is not excluded that containers will remain in port for several weeks, due to a lack of staff and understaffing of truck drivers, it is not possible to be cleared almost in a timely manner. As a result, container return is more than limited.
This situation is not expected to change until the end of the first quarter. It is predicted that freight rates will continue to rise, or certainly not be reduced.
EFF (Environmental Fuel Fee), which will apply to many trades on March 1, is why the EFF is being levied are the recently exorbitantly increased bunker prices.
Peak Season Surcharge (PSS)
Equipment Imbalance Surcharge
The short-term introduction of this batch is due to the current exceptional situation that these trades are currently facing in relation to unusually high cargo volumes and simultaneous equipment bottlenecks.

BREXIT
The exchange of goods and therefore the movement of goods with the United Kingdom will be the same after Brexit as with other third countries. It is therefore necessary to comply with EU customs legislation, as well as national and European export and import controls. In addition, there are additional requirements for corresponding customs declarations and, if necessary, for customs declarations. Export/import permits which must be drawn up and applied for. Customs duties may also apply.
For a smooth flow within the supply chain, coordination with recipients or suppliers is required:
· Are suppliers/recipients prepared?
· Who takes over and is responsible for the implementation of customs clearance?
· Are all the necessary authorizations available?
· Which terms of delivery - Incoterms - have been agreed?
· Are the necessary documents and data available and accompany the goods?
· What are the additional costs (e.B. customs duties, administration...)?
All procedures will incur costs to be paid by you or your customer/supplier. Billing can be controlled .B by clear delivery terms - incoterms - and franking.
Please inform yourself about the rights and obligations at an early stage.
Do you have any questions about this? Then please contact our experts.

COVID 19/2 - maintain supply chains!
Together we manage to maintain the supply chains as far as possible. Certainly, there are delays due to disruptions and reduced availability of freight space. Airfreight is particularly affected here and freight space can only be booked "on spot" at the appropriate rates.
Stay in contact with us, our complete team is at your disposal without restrictions, also due to the current conditions.
Stay healthy.

Blank sailings / lack of capacity in export
Some shipping lines or trade lanes are experiencing considerable shortages of slot capacity due to production stoppages in China, Korea, Japan and elsewhere. This shortage is caused by cancelled vessel departures or changed rotations - as certain ports are no longer called at - . The forecasts indicate that the shortage and the resulting delays may continue over the coming weeks.
For a smooth process of your deliveries, please contact our team promptly with appropriate advance notices in order to control even time-critical deliveries.

New administrative regulation for the execution of heavy loads
The Federal Ministry of Transport and digital infrastructure has amended the existing administrative regulation for §§29 para. 3 and 46 para. 1 No. 5 of the road traffic regulation (StVO).
As per the new issue, there are several complicating requirements for the application of approvals.
Amongst others, there have been made amendments under recital 96 a):
• The single permit has to be restricted to a maximum of 3 months and can be extended once within the validity by 3 months. A permit for a transport circuit is allowed:
Empty drive (Location or company site of the vehicle up to loading place) with a following transport (from loading place to destination) and a closing
empty drive (from destination back to company site).
• Per permit a continuous route is allowed only.
• One permit can contain a maximum of 5 identical vehicle combinations. As identical one considers a combination of vehicles where dimensions (length, width, height),
cornering behaviour, field of view, total weight, axle load and eccentricities correspond.
As the Federal Council has already agreed, the amendments of the administrative regulation are effective already and have to be considered at application for approval.
Please also pay attention to the fact that the standard processing time of 2 weeks of the approving authorities has been removed.
Due to the amendments of the administrative regulation, you have to consider an extended processing time.
In case of any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

G20 summit in Hamburg
On July 7th and 8th, 2017 Germany will host the G20 summit in Hamburg.
With regard to the high number of high-ranking government representatives and the announced protests, it is already foreseeable that the G20 summit will have an impact on the traffic flow in Hamburg, particularly around the Alster, the airport and the main station. There will be several hundred convoy trips with corresponding roadblocks during these two days. The port of Hamburg could also be affected by the protests. Due to the large number of critical objects, disturbances cannot be ruled out. Even so, they are trying to limit the consequences of mayor disruptions as far as possible. However, the river policy stated that interruptions cannot be exempted completely.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Tense booking situation Far East and Middle East!
Dear all,
as you might noticed from your current shipments in 2017 to the Middle East, India and Far East, the situation seems to be changing to a worse case scenario in regard of space and suitable sailings on a short notice. In light of the recent situation for the above mentioned trade lanes we recommend to arrange the relevant plannings in time to secure the required space for your ongoing projects. Some carriers already advised to be fully booked until beginning / mid of May. Any earlier dates need to be checked case-by-case. The carriers advised to implement GRI’s for the upcoming months (approx. USD 200,00 – USD 1200,00+).
In case of any very urgent shipments we will be pleased to work out a solution according to your needs.
If you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards

AEO-F-Certification of M.G. International Transports GmbH
Since 23.05.2014 M.G. International Transports GmbH has the Certificate F of the authorized Economic Operator (“admitted trader” AEO) of the customs authorities. This “F”-Version of the certificate includes simplification of customs laws as well as easement in the security division. After an extensive examination through customs agencies regarding the reliability, compliance of legal rules as well as performance of stipulated security standards the certificate states that M.G. International Transports GmbH is a special and particularly trustworthy partner in the international logistics section. The status of the “ admitted trader” (AEO) helps us to secure preferred treatment at customs clearances. That means that we have the possibility to receive licenses for customs procedures all over the European union in a simplified procedure without resumption exams. The goal of this method is to increase the security standards across the whole supply chain.
